Ahmed Douma

Ahmed Douma has been in prison since November 2013 - one of the first of the leftist activists targeted by the Sisi regime.

He has been sentenced to 15 years - which he has now served half of, though is not eligible for parole until he pays more than 8,000,000 EGP in fines.

In 2013 and early 2014, Douma was imprisoned in the same ward as Alaa and together they wrote Graffiti for Two - a major essay, combining Douma’s poetry and Alaa’s prose, and reflecting on generational inheritance of struggle and suffering. It has been collected and translated in You Have Not Yet Been Defeated.

Douma’s latest collection of poetry, Curly, was published in Arabic 2021.
